The Asir region is a plateau near the Yemeni Border. It rises from sea level to 8,500' + (feet) in places around Abha. It is also nicknamed "The Garden of Saudi Arabia" as it's relatively high altitude ensures a warm temperate climate, suitable for growing crops such as bananas & figs The people of the Asir region also are adept farmers often farming on terraces on the side of sheer cliffs with drops of many thousands of feet In contrast to the nomadic existence of the Bedouin tribes of the deserts. |
